What is Feminine Embodiment?
Within all beings, regardless of gender, live the masculine and feminine energies. The Masculine being consciousness/the mind. The Feminine being matter/the body.
The path of Tantra is about weaving these vital aspects of ourselves to cultivate inner union aka wholeness. Feminine Embodiment is a gateway to this union.
Feminine Embodiment is the body of work that utilises practices involving intentional breath, self-touch, non-linear movement and slowness to connect with the body with presence, and awaken The Feminine.
The Feminine being flow, surrender, rest, intuition, beingness, the chaos of nature, sensuality, the animal. Archetypes such as the mother, witch, crone, maiden, queen, goddess represent The Feminine.
As opposed to The Masculine which is linear, discerning, structure, goal-oriented, will power, drive/ambition, doing, logic & reason, order. And represented by archetypes such as the father, the sage, king, warrior, lover.
Feminine Embodiment being a modality that has evolved from Tantra carries with it the intention of cultivating Inner Union. We explore both Feminine and Masculine qualities, such as the ones named above. We use the term Feminine Embodiment because we are using the body as the tool, as opposed to the mind.
The Feminine has many faces and facets. We embody different archetypes to activate and awaken different codes, technologies or traits within ourselves. Depending on what challenges we are facing in life.
For example, for a woman who is struggling to access her joy and playfulness, it would be helpful to explore the Maiden archetype. Using breath, sound & movement to express child-like qualities and awaken to lightness and curiosity again.
Or a woman struggling with boundaries, truth speaking and submissiveness may find it useful to explore the Warrior Archetype. Using breath, sound, movement and self-touch to cultivate a strong spine and hold herself somatically in the sensations that arise when she uses her voice.
The way I teach Feminine Embodiment includes modalities rooted in Ancient Daoist Tantra, sensual dance and non-linear movement to awaken erotic energy and utilise it as a source for vitality and creativity.
This aspect of the work is so important because of the demonisation of feminine sexuality and power by religion throughout history. And the subsequent pendulum swing that we see in Western Culture to empowerment equating to “hyper sexuality.”
A large focus of my work is teaching women embodiment versus performance. Enabling women to feel in their bodies what it is like to be in an authentic experience and expression of their sensuality, versus one that is disembodied and performative.
True intimacy is experienced when we are in the body, feeling and being true to the moment. Not when we are in a calculated mind.
Practicing Feminine Embodiment has a deep impact on the way we show up in sexual intimacy as well as all other kinds of relating. Embodiment is how we come into connection with our soul-essence, meaning you become more of yourself.
To me, to be embodied means, “I am relating with my body in such a way that allows space for more of my soul to shine through.”
It is a way of living that is feeling based. Embodiment is about utilising the body as an antenna for navigating life and aligning to truth. (We sense truth through feeling).
Embodiment practices involve developing a relationship with the body using breath, sound, movement and touch and often have a focus on tuning into subtle sensations, nervous system regulation and cultivating sensuality.
To be embodied is to be occupying your body so fully that your essence is felt.
Embodiment is the non- linear journey of somatic self connection and expression of your soul.
